Our Story
How two students transformed their frustration into a solution for millions
URD Play was born from our personal struggles as students facing the harsh reality of digital inequality. When we attempted to purchase a Google Play subscription, we were confronted with prices that were completely out of reach for Indian students and families. Our research revealed that Rs 99 per month or Rs 889 annually was simply unsustainable for a significant portion of our population.
We created URD Play to offer a truly affordable alternative at just Rs 49 per month - saving users Rs 50 (50.5%) monthly, and Rs 399 annually - saving Rs 500 (55.6%) compared to other platforms.
Determined to create change, we began saving Rs 500 from our monthly pocket money of Rs 1,000. Living on half our budget was challenging, but our belief in creating a solution kept us focused. Despite initial skepticism from our families, we persevered, dedicating months to research, planning, and development.
What started as a student project has grown into a movement. Our research confirmed that India is ready for its own digital marketplace - one developed by Indians, for Indians. Our slogan, "Your Phone, Your Language, Your Play Store," reflects our commitment to cultural relevance and user empowerment.
To celebrate our upcoming December launch, we're offering the first 108 customers complimentary one-year subscriptions to YouTube and Spotify - a testament to our commitment to providing exceptional value.
We invite you to join us in building a platform that serves the real needs of Indian users. Together, we can create a digital ecosystem that combines affordability, cultural pride, and technological empowerment.
Thank you for your support.
Warm regards,
The URD Play Team
